In Yoruba mythology, Oshun is the Orisha of the fresh water, sensuality, love, and all sweet things that make life worth living. In certain Yoruba creation stories, Oshun was the only female out of 17 Orishas tasked with creating the world. The male deities excluded Oshun, ridiculing her and deeming her gifts useless. In her absence, the male Orishas realized how empty life was without Oshun's feminine gifts, and humbly asked her to return. This painting depicts Oshun returning to humanity to bless us with her sweet waters of unconditional love.
