CNIB Lake Joe is excited to announce the launch of its CNIBLakeJoe@Home: Camp-in-a-Box program for children and youth (aged 6-18) this August. Thanks to the generosity of the Military Police Fund for Blind Children, we will be sending camp boxes filled with accessible activities and materials to bring virtual Zoom sessions to life daily, with lots of fun challenges and activities away from the screen too!

We are offering four weeks of CNIBLakeJoe@Home: Camp-in-a-Box. Each week will have a different theme.

  • Week One: August 10-14, Everything Summer Camp Week
    • This week is a general summer camp week and will include a little bit of everything – arts and crafts, music, games, etc.
  • Week Two: August 17-21, Nature Week
    • This week will also include games, arts, music and more, all with a nature theme! Get ready to go outside and explore nature!
  • Week Three: August 24-28, Sports Week
    • This box will include sport supplies to be used while participating in our live sessions with volunteer coaches from the Camp Abilities program. Let’s get moving!
  • Week Four: August 31-September 4, Arts Week
    • This week will focus on arts and crafts, music and drama. Let’s get creative!

Each week we will meet with campers Monday – Friday, twice daily, at 11 AM and 3 PM, Eastern Time, for an hour via Zoom, for fun camp activities.

There are a limited number of boxes available each week. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity! Visit https://cniblakejoe.campbrainregistration.com/ to register today.

Due to the limited number of boxes available, we ask that you choose one or two weeks to start. If you are interested in attending additional weeks, please email Lindsay.Garrett@cnib.ca to be put on a waiting list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can register for CNIB LakeJoe@Home Camp-in-a-Box?

This exciting program is open to children and youth with sight loss from across Canada, as well as their siblings. Haven’t been to Lake Joe before? Not a problem. Come join us virtually to get a taste of the fun of Lake Joe!

Is there a fee for the CNIB LakeJoe@Home Camp-in-a-Box program?

No. Thanks to a generous donation from the Military Police Fund for Blind Children there are no fees associated with this program. The boxes, contents and shipping costs have all been covered by this grant.

Is there an expectation that kids commit to being present for all 10 sessions?

We understand that people’s schedules are busy during the summer, so we understand if your child is not able to attend every session. However, just like summer camp, your child will get the most out of the experience if they attend the sessions and get to know the other campers. We highly encourage full participation in the twice daily Zoom sessions and would recommend choosing a week that works with your schedule so that your child is able to log on to Zoom at 11 AM and 3 PM, Eastern Time.

This is a large age range. Will my younger child be on Zoom sessions with teenagers? Will my teenager be on Zoom sessions with younger children?

We will be using breakout rooms to divide the larger group into smaller, more age-appropriate groups. We will do our best to place your child in a group with other children similar in age. Each breakout room will have at least one program facilitator to lead the session.

Is the Camp-in-a-Box program in place of the currently scheduled July child/youth programs, or in addition to?

The CNIB LakeJoe@Home Camp-in-a-Box program will be replacing the currently scheduled weekly child and youth programs offered through LakeJoe@Home.
