CNIB Foundation launches Connecting the Dots
New conference focused on braille, technology and employment
TORONTO – October 29, 2019 – Today, the CNIB Foundation was pleased to welcome Honorary Patron, the Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, as it launched Connecting the Dots – a nationwide conference focused on braille, technology and employment for people with sight loss.
Coinciding with National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the two-day event invites Canadians to learn more about current trends and innovations in the sight loss community, network with talent who are blind or partially sighted, experience the latest advancements in assistive technologies, and meet a community of entrepreneurs.
"A job is so much more than just a paycheque: it's a means to self-reliance, a source of identity and pride, and a gateway to a brighter future," says Wayne Henshall, Manager, Career Support Program and Impact Evaluation, CNIB Foundation. "Connecting the Dots introduces Canadians to resources, knowledge and tools that open the doors to education, employment and independence for people who are blind or partially sighted."
This year's conference brings to Toronto leaders in braille, technology, academia and employment for educational workshops and thought-provoking panel discussions on a variety of topics connected to the conference theme of braille, technology, and employment.
Attendees also have an opportunity to network with professionals at the CNIB Work Zone to support their career ambitions. Technology exhibitors and entrepreneurs will showcase their products that are available for purchase. You'll find the agenda at: cnib.ca/connectingthedots
Speakers will include representatives from the CNIB Foundation, Deloitte, Humanware, Microsoft, Ontario Tech University, Ryerson University, Totem Learning Ltd., and more.
